Cumberland County Campus Foundation Hosts 21st One Book Event
On October 16, students, community members, book clubs, and
Cumberland Foundation board of directors gathered at the 21st
One Book Event. As a journalist, Julie Carrick Dalton has
published more than a thousand articles in The Boston Globe,
Businessweek, The Hollywood Reporter, Orion Magazine,
Electric Literature, and other publications. A Tin House and
Bread Loaf alum, and graduate of GrubStreet’s Novel Incubator,
Dalton holds a master’s degree in literature and creative writing
from Harvard Extension School.
Part environmental dystopia, part coming of age, part mystery,
part romance, The Last Beekeeper is sure to appeal to a broad
audience. The narrative delivered a much-needed reminder of
the importance of safeguarding the earth and its inhabitants
(even its tiniest) from unnecessary harm and the habitual acts we
perform that can imperil both. A beekeeper, environmentalist,
and author, Ms. Carrick Dalton is a frequent speaker on Fiction
in the Age of Climate Crisis at universities, conferences, libraries,
and museums. Her work has been featured in Chicago Review of
Books, Orion, Newsweek, The Boston Globe, Electric Literature,
and more. The next One Book event will be in October 2025. For
